Medical technology and life sciences companies are increasingly conducting clinical trials outside the United States. While companies stand to benefit substantially from cost saving opportunities and access to large patient populations, there are pitfalls associated with conducting studies abroad. This webinar will review some of the industry trends and challenges associated with conducting clinical trials in other countries.
Barbara Gotthelf, J.D., is a partner in the Philadelphia office of McCarter & English, LLP. She practices in the firm’s Products Liability group in state and federal courts in Penn-sylvania and New Jersey. Barbara’s practice is focused on general litigation with an em-phasis on the defense of claims against pharmaceutical and medical device manufac-turers. Barbara has defended claims involving such products as synthetic hormones, opioid analgesics, contraceptives, durable medical equipment, and diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices. She has defended individual cases and served on na-tional, regional, and “virtual” trial teams.
Outside of the life sciences, Barbara has experience defending claims for catastrophic injuries brought against the manufacturers of volatile chemicals, industrial equipment, and commercial vehi-cles. Her clients Include manufacturers of school buses, automotive equipment, heavy machinery, and spe-cialty chemicals. Barbara represents manufacturers and suppliers in mass tort litigation in state and federal court, including MDL litigation. She also counsels clients with regard to consumer product safety and de-fends corporations in contract and other business disputes.
