Products Liability Risks for Distributors

Previously Recorded on August 25, 2011

This webinar is critical for distributors of life sciences products. Too frequently, distributors mistakenly believe that they are invulnerable to products liability lawsuits since they do not manufacture any products. They fail to appreciate how common it is for distributors to be brought into lawsuits involving the products they distribute, and they underestimate the financial impact of being sued. This webinar will provide an overview of key products liability concepts relevant to life sciences distributors.

Susan Burnett, Esq.Susan Burnett, Esq. has focused on drug and device litigation defense with a particular emphasis on mass torts for over fifteen years. She concentrates on motion practice and appellate work, including appellate support at trial. She has successfully briefed and argued summary judgment and Daubert motions in cases involving a wide variety of products, including contraceptives, vaccines (including obtaining summary judgment based on failure to comply with the federal vaccine act and successfully arguing the appeal in the Fifth Circuit and opposing the petition for certiorari), antidepressants, immunosuppressants, and a number of other products. Ms. Burnett also is experienced in defending class actions, including working on a “no-injury” consumer fraud class action in which the Fifth Circuit ultimately rejected the claims based on lack of standing. Ms. Burnett earned her J.D. with High Honors from the University of Texas School of Law and her B.A. degree with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.
